Happy Five Months!!- 7-19-14

Happy 5 Months Pretty Girl!!

Age: 5 months
Weight: 16.8 lbs
Height: 24 in

Milestones:

Wow! I feel like this month Harper has grown up before our eyes. She has really learned a lot and is doing so much!!
  • Harper is sitting up. She wobbles just a little bit, especially if she gets distracted but for the most part she can sit without any support for periods of time.
  • Laughs and giggles can be heard throughout the day. She laughs and laughs at words that begin with "b" and "p" but also when you give her kisses on her feet.
  • Harper sleeps 11-12 hours without waking in her crib. She has also said goodbye to the sleep sack.
  • At about 4.5 months, Harper got back to rolling from her tummy to back. Now she rolls all over the place.
  • Harper has been putting weight on her legs for a while now but you can tell as you hold her hands that she is getting better balance.
  • Anything and everything goes in her mouth!! I think she is going to give her daddy a nervous breakdown.
  • Harper is scooting on her belly. She really wants to crawl but has not yet mastered the coordination. While she is moving around a little bit, she is also holding herself up in what looks like a plank and superman.
  • She is holding her own bottle now.
  • I am also starting to hear some consonant sounds.
  • Harper also likes to make raspberries and give lots of kisses!!

Sleep:

Harper gets a bath at 7:00 p.m. We put on pjs right after and read a book in the rocker. Then, she drinks a bottle and 99% of the time she passes right out in the rocker. I usually rock her a little longer, then lay her down in the crib. She loves to sleep on her side and tummy.

The beginning of the month consisted of 4 naps during the day. As the month progressed we have been working on moving naps to the crib. It has been a tough process. We have done a few but they are usually super short. I also think we are transitioning to less nap times...possibly morning and afternoon.

Mommy's Favorite Moment:

Oh my goodness!!! My girl is growing up! It has been amazing watching her learn so many new things this month. She is definitely my little mover and shaker.

This month little Harper had a very special moment. She was baptized on July 13th. My little peanut was beautiful in her white dress. She was blessed by the pastor, the congregation sang a special song to her, then we celebrated with friends and family at mom-mom and pop-pop Knotts's. I was a very proud mama!!

Daddy's Favorite Moment:

Seeing Harper's face the first time she had oatmeal.  It took her a little while to figure out what to do with the food in her mouth, but she got the hang of it.  Also, I am totally impressed with how well she is doing with sitting up, rolling over, and how far she pushes her upper body up with her arms when she's on her belly.  The best part of every morning is when you go in to get her out of her crib.  She looks at you and giggles and smiles.  Such a happy baby.

Health:

Still spitting up : ( ...but no major health concerns.

Eating:

This gorgeous girl is on to bigger and better things. We have started SOLIDS!!! We knew it was time. Harper had great control over her body...sitting with support then sitting on her own, pushing herself up onto her arms, and of course eyeing up every piece of food I stick in my mouth.

We started with oatmeal once a day for a week then twice a day for a week. She did great and loves it! Then we started to introduce veggies following the 3-4 day rule. So far she's had squash (not a fan), sweet potatoes (had to mix it with cereal), and green beans (LOVED). Since she is only 4 months the doctor said feeding her now is more to teach her how to eat rather than for the nutrients. (They are still coming from the bottle.) With that being said, we do cereal for breakfast and the veggie for dinner.

Harper still takes a bottle every 3-4 hours. We use Target Up & Up Sensitive brand and really love it. Throughout the day she takes 4 ounce bottles and a 6 ounce bottle before bed. We tried increasing the ounces but it was too much on her tummy.

Things I Want to Remember:
  • Harper is wearing 3 month and 3-6 month clothes and size 2 diapers.
  • Started going to a workout class with mommy. Harper has met lots of friends and loves playtime on the mat, story time, and all the arts and crafts.
  • Went to her first birthday party and sat on a pony!!
  • Harper had her first experience in a swing and loved it. We are looking forward to mom-mom and pop-pop Knotts putting up a swing at their house.
  • We went swimming with Granny, Aunt Meri, Alyssa, Arihanna, Mommy, and Daddy at Aunt Marg's house. Harper was a little unsure. Mommy and Daddy bought her a new bathing suit, float, and of course a new pair of shades.
  • 4th of July!!! We didn't make the fireworks but Harper went to her first bbq.
  • Baptism- July 13th ~ Aunt Ci-Ci and Uncle Mike came to visit.
  • Harper has graduated to actually sitting in the stroller instead of the infant car seat.
